The Chron's least useful columnist cops to laziness in a correction in today's paper regarding his uncritical belief in the Valentine Foundation, which Houston Press readers knew is run by convicted grifter Whitney Broach. Thanks to Kevin for helping to put pressure on Houston's Leading Information Source and for spotting the mea culpa.
Posted by Charles Kuffner on June 12, 2002 to Elsewhere in HoustonI know the story about Whitney Broach is old news, but when my parents told me she was president of a charity, I couldn't believe it. I am embarrased to say this , but she is a relation of mine(by marriage). Please encourage your readers to not give any money or merchandise to this woman as I feel in the depth of my being that she is evil. Not only has she been involved in fraud cases, she has also been involved in some scam encouraging women to use a new breast scan which she says is more accurate than a mammogram in detecting breast cancer. I fear for the life of women who might have gone to her with false hopes. In addition, she also killed her first husband, an attorney in New Orleans. She accused him of physical abuse and was evidently acquitted. I do not know the details but knowing her history since then, I would be interested to know if she received any life insurance money after his death(which she caused). Please do not share my email with Whitney(Cheri, Michelle whatever her name is today) as she would know from whence it came.
