I've mentioned before that Jerry Springer is considering a run for George Voinovich's Ohio Senate seat. Now, via O-Dub, I see that he's not only still considering it, he's got a blog to help him explore the issue. Hot damn!
I'll tell you what, I considered this to be a big joke when I first heard about it. Having just read the following quote in his latest entry, I'm ready to give him my support:
In terms of my possible candidacy, let me sum up what we face in the following quote from a right wing journalist recently appearing on CNN with Wolf Blitzer:
"Voter turnout is not a glorious thing. If Jerry Springer shows up, he’ll bring all these new people to the polls. They will be slack-jawed yokels, hicks, weirdos, pervs, and whatnot."
Believe it or not, Jerry Springer really was once the mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio. Apparently, he was forced out of office in a sex scandal involving prostitutes, but what do you expect from the the king of sleaze?
Listen, if Jesse Ventura can be governor of Minnesota, why not Jerry Springer?
Posted by: William Hughes on June 11, 2003 9:07 PMThis is a correction to my earlier comment. Jerry Springer was a member of the Cincinnati City Council when he admitted in federal court to using personal checks to pay for prositiutes. He was LATER voted mayor of Cincinnati.
This is the same city that put Larry Flynt on trial for obscenity charges.
Posted by: William Hughes on June 12, 2003 8:11 AMThat town has just never been the same since Dr. Johnny Fever said "booger" on the air.
Posted by: Patrick on June 12, 2003 10:47 AMIt was Johnny Sunshine who was thrown off the air for saying "booger." When he returned to the air as Dr. Johnny Fever, he said "Boogerboogerbooger."
Sigh. I can't believe I really know all this stuff. And now I'm a blogger. I gotta get a life.
Posted by: John J. McKay on June 12, 2003 2:49 PMIf a Springer candidacy increases turnout, that will be a sad statement on the state of our democracy... Then again, so was Ventura.
Posted by: Owen Courrèges on June 12, 2003 3:25 PMJerry is more in tougch with the "masses" than the rest of the bozos in office. What this country needs is a chicken in every pot, a car in every garrage, and health insurance for every one. Jerry got in trouble when he was a city council member, resigned, came back , and went on to become mayor of cincinnaty. he courted the vote of the poor and middle class. if a politician could get this particular voting segment together and to the polls, he would be unstoppable
