Dynamo win MLS championship

Congratulations to the Houston Dynamo for winning the MLS championship in their inaugural year. I confess, I went back to my normal level of interest in soccer about five minutes after the whole team name flap ended, so I wasn't exactly paying attention to this. Will their achievement help them to get a new soccer-specific stadium? I don't know, but I guess this means I have to start paying attention again.

Anyway. Congrats to the Dynamo on your championship. Now you have only three more to go to match the Comets...

Yeah, congrats.

But what's with those orange and white uniforms? They really look terrible on TV. Or is it just me? Every orange team frankly looks horrible on TV. Tennessee, Florida Gators (sort of orange and blue), and the old Denver Broncos.

What Houston should do is consider a large soccer complex of which a stadium is only one part. Lots of youth soccer fields, training facilities, places for youth soccer camp, that sort of thing. That's more or less what they built in Frisco for the Dallas team. I think they did quite nicely. You don't need a sports palace for MLS soccer. And something like a 20,000 seat stadium is about perfect provided that it is designed for possible expansion in the future if necessary. Make it the place where all the little kiddies go for their games and they will have a ready fan base for the MLS games.

The only downside with that is same-day conflicts between MLS games and kids games. That could really screw with the parking and access.

It was a great game and the Dynamos are a great addition to the city. You are right about the Frisco Complex as the model for Houston. The fact that little in the way of community/youth sports resulted from the billions of dollars of investment made to football, baseball, and basketball venues is terrible. Fortunately, we can still solve the problem. Personally, I love the Orange! It looks great.
