Early voting: Rainy days and Mondays

Today was the first day of the last week of early voting. On this day in 2003, with EV hours of only 8 AM to 4:30 PM, there were over 5500 in person votes cast. Today, in twelve hours of early voting, a mere 3035 people showed up, with another 987 mail ballots arriving. I think it’s safe to say that whatever early trends we had, they have not continued. I’ll grant that as was the case last Thursday, the lousy weather likely kept people away. If things pick up considerably from here on out, as the weather is forecast to be nice, maybe I’ll change my outlook. But after today’s performance, I’m not feeling too sanguine about high-end turnout projections.

One Response to Early voting: Rainy days and Mondays

I voted at the West Gray Multiservice Center yesterday. I think we got there about 6, the rain had lightened up and was just a light sprinkle.

It was totally empty. When we (two of us) first got there, I think there was one other person already voting. When we left, one person was coming in.
