Saturday video break: Random acts of culture

The Hallelujah Chorus, performed in the Philadelphia Mall:

I’m nearly as impressed by the mall’s architecture as I am by the performance itself. I feel compelled to note, however, that the HC is technically an Easter song, not a Christmas song, though it always gets performed at this time of year. My favorite chorus from The Messiah that’s actually a Christmas song is “For unto us a child is born”, and for that we go to London:

Speaking as a former choirboy, that one’s a whole heap of fun to sing. If you’d prefer to hear professional do the singing, see here for some local opportunities.

That’s not a mall, it’s a department store. Really. Used to be Wanamaker’s (the organ is still named the Wanamaker organ), then Strawbridges, and now I think Lord & Taylor’s. A reminder of a grander era of consumerism….
