This arrived in the mail last week:
I have no idea from which mailing list they bought my name. Suffice it to say it was not money well spent on their part. I got a good laugh out of it, which is more than they’ll get.

“just for the record”-i think this deals with the actual history of our country at this point and has little to do with partisan politics.

My father was singlehandedly responsible for the Bush Library actually coming to SMU.
He is the lawyer for the Methodist Bishop of the North Texas Conference. He argued (successfully) before the Methodist Supreme Court (aka the Judicial Council) that it was within SMU’s discretion to host the presidential library, despite GWB’s actions that the Methodist Church opposed.
As I told him at the time, it’s not question of it will later bring burning shame down on Methodists, that’s just my opinion. It’s a question of if it is within their rights as an institution to lie down with dogs, and I think it is.
He was less scornful when he presented the case, I think.
There’s a reason canon law is called canon law…
Kinda reminds me of the time we got invited to a UH Alumni Association reception honoring then-Congressman Tom DeLay.
I was apparently not the only alum who responded they’d never participate in any activity honoring Cong. DeLay, and we would also not be renewing our memberships in the organization if they thought he was worth honoring in any way.
Mine came to the name we use on our Texas Monthly subscription. They should have sent it to our disburser, Ms Helen Wait. If they want a check from me, they’ll haveta go to Helen Wait.
Remember Charly, checks aren’t money! You can’t bribe someone via a check, or defraud them by taking it from them.
