Interview with HCDP Chair Lane Lewis

Lane Lewis

Next week I will begin running interviews for legislative races. As you might imagine, the long-running saga of when the primary would be, coupled with the uncertainty of what the districts would be as well as the re-filing period now going on has made that a challenge, but I’ll muddle through. This week is a wrap on county races, and to begin with we have Harris County Democratic Party Chair Lane Lewis, who was voted in by precinct chairs to succeed Gerry Birnberg in December. Lewis was a longtime party activist and SDEC15 Chair prior to being elected Chair, and ran for Houston City Council District A in 2009, losing in the runoff to Brenda Stardig. Lewis has been a social worker and elementary school teacher among other things in his career, and from my observation as a Democrat has brought some new energy and a strong vision to the party since his election.

Two things to note before we get to the interview. One is that this was conducted on February 17, which is to say a couple of weeks before the San Antonio court produced the interim maps and decreed a May 29 primary. I don’t recall offhand anything else in our conversation that might be affected by the lag, but keep that in mind. Two, I did my best to reach out to Keryl Douglass, who is challenging Lewis in the primary. We traded some emails and had a tentative agreement to meet for an interview a week before Friday though we had not set a time or location. Before that happened, she emailed to say she needed to postpone till the following week – that is, last week – but never got back to me after that despite a couple of followup emails from me. Keryl, if you read this, I would still like to interview you. Email me or call me and we’ll set it up. Now here’s the interview with Lane Lewis:

I met lane lewis recently when i was still working for the alma allen campaign in the 131st district,as my goals with her campaign had been reached, her and i parted ways on good terms.lane intentially photgraphs himself to look older than he is-HE IS YOUNG,in my opinion he does not have the expertise nor the experience above the lawyer lady that is running against him-her name escapes me for the moment,i found lane lewis to be abrasive-self serving, pushy, honestly i found him to be a little stuck on himself-to say the least i was not impressed.

Response to Joshua Bullard. Interesting comment. Your description of Lane Lewis is exactly how I find Keryl Douglas. Every time I have spoken with her, she comes across as abrasive and defensive and appears to have a chip on her shoulder. She has no qualifications that I can see and is busy working to divide the party in an effort to get herself elected. Hope you are still supporting Alma Allen; I am.

Joshua, have you ever heard of a dictionary or even spell check? And, there are a few great keys that provide punctuation and allow you to make capital letters.

Now, you are a Tea Party denizen and Kubosh minion, and you forfeited credibility and integrity long ago. It’s hard to pick on you because you are quite obviously not all there. Yet, you just won’t shut up or butt out of Democratic races and issues, so it would seem that you either enjoy being abused, which would explain your attachment to the Tea Party, Paul Kubosh, Helena Brown, and all things evil in general, or you are you are an imbecile, which would also explain your attraction to the “Dark Side.” Quite possibly, you have both of those issues.

As far as your comments on Lewis being too young and trying to look older, he’s a few years older than you. You say Lewis is, “abrasive-self serving, pushy, honestly i found him to be a little stuck on himself.” It sounds more like you are describing yourself, and I find no reason for you to be so proud of yourself. I can say without fear of contradiction, that you most certainly impress no one. I’d like to buy you for what you’re worth and sell you for what you think you’re worth.

The problem is that you run with mental midgets and you think yourself intellectually their equal, which may unfortunately be the case. Regardless, quit trying to fool anybody that you have any degree of familiarity with Lewis or any Democratic candidate, or for that matter, with the exception of the pseudo-Dem’s that the Kubosh’s are trying to foist off on Democratic voters. Trust me, neither yours nor your “friends” opinions are welcome, solicited or needed by Houston Democrats. Go away.
