Early voting for the Texas, March 1, Primary Elections begins Tuesday, Feb. 16 and continues through Friday, Feb. 26.  There will be 42 early voting locations where Harris County citizens seeking to vote a Republican or  Democratic ballot can vote.  Harris County Clerk Stan Stanart reminds voters that “during Early Voting, one can vote at any of the 42 countywide early voting locations, but on Election Day one must vote at the location where one’s precinct is assigned to vote.”  Voters can visit www.HarrisVotes.com to view a map with a detailed schedule of Early Voting locations and times.

“Please VOTE EARLY, as many voters will not have the same Election Day polling locations as in the November 2015 Election” Stanart, the Chief Election Officer of the County, alerted voters.   In Primary elections, there are the same number of polling locations as a General Election; however, half are Democratic Party locations and half are Republican Party locations.  Consequently more election precincts are combined than in a General Election for each party.  The political parties determine where the polling locations are located in Primary Elections.

Stanart added: “In Texas, a registered voter may vote in either party Primary Election during an election cycle, but only one party, not both.”  To ensure voters receive the correct party ballot, all voters will be asked to indicate which party they are choosing to affiliate with at the early voting location.

“As a result of the consolidation of voting precincts for each of the Party’s Primary Election Day locations, many voters have to vote at a different location than in the general election.  Consequently, it is much more convenient to vote early.” concluded Stanart. In the 2012 Primary Elections, 52 percent of Harris County voters, voted early.

To obtain an early voting schedule, view a personal sample ballot, or review the list of acceptable forms of photo identification required to vote at the poll, voters can call the Harris County Clerk’s office at 713.755.6965, or visit www.HarrisVotes.com.

See here for more information, including hours. I will also note that this Friday, the 19th, is the deadline to apply for a mail ballot if you need one but don’t already have one. Go to HarrisVotes.com for a mail ballot application. There should be some decent crowds this year, so make a plan for how, and when and where you want to vote and get out there.
