Interview with Bill White

Bill White

And so we come to the end of the 2010 candidate interview cycle with the candidate whose entry into his race changed the narrative and the perceptions of what was possible for the Democratic ticket. That candidate is Bill White, and I’m pretty sure by now he needs no introduction, so let’s jump right in to the interview. This was done over the phone (please forgive the call-waiting beep in there) and under the constraint of his extremely tight schedule or it would have been longer:

My thanks to Bill White, and to all of the candidates, for taking the time to speak to me. I hope you found this batch of interviews to be worthwhile and informative. Just think, in another eight months or so I’ll be doing this all again for the 2011 municipal elections. Anyway, you can listen to the interview I did with White for the primary here, and while White will receive all or nearly all of the newspaper endorsements, the most important ones he got came earlier in the year:

Early voting is now underway

Thanks for listening to my interviews, now please go vote.

You can find a list of all interviews for this cycle on the 2010 Elections page.

    Dear Sir,

I have heard Mr. Perry’s side spew negative things about Mr. White. I have also heard Mr. White do the same back at Mr. Perry. To me, the choice here is between Tweedle-Dee or Tweedle-Dum and frankly I have no preference when it comes to Tweedles.

I don’t see where either really care that Texas has the highest total of uninsured citizens of any state in the union. I also don’t see where either believe they have any responsibility to the average Texas citizen. Their constiuency seems to be the law enforcement and educational industries.

I would like someone to ask Mr. White how it was that when his 17 year old daughter was pulled over for DUI a few years ago, there was a “problem” with the arrest and the charge was thrown out.

Too bad there were no “problems” with my son’s arrest and his life has forever changed. Wonder if the poor patrolman who was just doing his job at 2 AM on Louisana Street in downtown Houston, still has his job or not.

    Great interview Chuck.

I liked the question about social media; an intriguing reply too. I think just looking at the facebook pages for both candidates for Rick Perry and Bill White reveals a lot. White’s FB posts are relatively open and written by him (I believe him). Perry’s posts look as though they were written by an aide. Thanks for the TXDOT question. I would have liked to hear his thoughts about mass transit, bullet trains, etc…

By the way, I just finished listening to Evan Smith’s interviews. They were great!
