Shame on you, Richard Justice

I’m an infrequent reader of Richard Justice’s sports columns because I tend to find him more annoying than insightful. I’m not a reader of his blog because I get all the Richard Justice I need in the paper. As such, I missed the appalling, sexist, and possibly defamatory comments he made towards Stephanie Stradley, who is a friend of mine and a genuinely nice person who knows way more about football than I do. She’s far more measured in her response than he deserves. I’m not going to say any more because I don’t think I can without getting profane. Just read it and see if you agree. Thanks to Tom for the pointer.

  1. I was shocked and appalled by that entire display. I am not sure why the Chronicle would condone or encourage one of their most identifiable writers to behave like that in a public forum. Justice was one of the reasons why I cancelled my subscription to the Chronicle two months ago. I got tired of his beligerent, arrogant take on Houston sports, not to mention his total disregard for sticking to his guns. One day he calls for Wade to be fired, the next he is praising his skills as a GM.

It’s sad that the city of Houston has to put up with this kind of journalism. We deserve better.

I still laugh when I think of him yelling at a caller on 1560 “I AM THE MEDIA, BROTHER!” Justice is one of those old school media guys who likes to insert himself in the story. He writes a lot about what he told Drayton to do or how he thinks this or that. That’s his choice since he writes an opinion column, but he has yet to figure out that no one cares about the writer. They just want to read the story.

I just want to echo urbanhoustonian’s comments.

If the Astros are doing well, Justice writes a flattering column. Stuck in a 3 game skid? Rest assured Justice will tear them apart. His analysis seems to be no better than what you would get from a casual fair-weather fan.

Lord, what a jackass. Nothing indicates your argument is hollow more than responding to a female questioner with blatantly sexist comments.
