Pingback: Off the Kuff Interview of Diane Trautman – Harris County Department of Education, Pos 3 At Large
If some program is funded by our Federal Government, it is NOT free! I support Diane Trautman in her bid for Harris County Dept. of Education… HOWEVER, let’s call a spade a spade. Just because the Federal Government sponsors a service or program does not mean that service or program is FREE! Tax payers PAY for these so-called “free” programs. One third of my salary is taken from my paycheck for these “free” services. Don’t get me wrong… I am all for paying my fair share, but don’t take my money in order to provide services that you tell your constituents are FREE! Too many people take advantage of these services– from “free” lunch, to “free” headstart. What is something worth if it is free? Our public school system would benefit greatly if individuals who use these services were to pay a nominal fee. By doing so, perhaps they will be more apt to respect the system, which they now see as an entitlement.
