Sutherland Springs

I don’t even know what to say. I worry more about some random asshole with a gun more than I do about anything else that could harm me or my family. I’ll say it again, because I keep having to say it, nothing will change until we start electing different people. Continuing to do what we’ve always done is to accept these unacceptably common events as normal. I refuse to do that.

Thoughts and prayers are worthless here. The best option is to treat guns the way we treat cars. Yes, you may own and operate one (a gun or car), but because either is deadly when misused, we require these proofs of responsible use:

    1) you are trained in the safe use of this device
    2) you get a license to use the device
    3) you carry liability insurance

That is a reasonable compromise, but the absolutist scumbags at the NRA aren’t reasonable. Some of this blood is on their hands.

  2. C.L. says:

@Flypusher…. some good ideas, but none of them would keep military grade assault weapons out of the hands of the general public, where they have no business being to begin with. The govt doesn’t allow you or me to have a bazooka or RPG, why does it allow us to carry around an AR 15-style rifle with a bump stock and 30 round clip…that I bought at a GRB or Pasadena Gun Show without a background check conducted ?

  3. Flypusher says:

A good point- there needs to be a discussion about what civilians can own, and what’s limited to military use. Then the rules I suggested could be applied. The bump stock debate faded out of the news too quickly. Those should be banned.

I think it would be wise to ask the families of all gun deaths in the USA what there thoughts are on the subject.

  5. Ross says:

@CL, what makes you think you can’t own a bazooka or an RPG?

  6. neither here nor there says:

If you own a gun you must have insurance, minimum of one million dollars. We let the market sort it out as to how to charge the gun owners. I trust private insurance companies to have reasonable rates for reasonable persons.

  7. Ross says:

@neither, why do you hate poor people? Why are you trying to price them out of a Constitutional right?

  8. neither here nor there says:

Ross I take it you are being ??? but just in case you are sincere in your comment, there are a ton more poor people than rich people.

But liability insurance for vehicles is the same as it hurts poor people more than rich people. Cars with bad drivers, drunk drivers, high drivers kill a lot more people than guns but it is getting close.

  9. Ross says:

And there’s no one driving without insurance? Every car is insured? Same thing with firearms, lack of legally required insurance would not stop anyone from walking out their door with a pistol in their belt or a rifle in their hands. That law would, however, provide yet another excuse for law enforcement to harass people, especially the poor and minorities, for grins and giggles.

  10. neither here nor there says:

Ross they don’t need an excuse to harass. No proof of insurance can’t buy a gun. But that ain’t going to happen so no sense in arguing, a tank in front of everyone house will stop the violence.
