Interview with Alex Triantaphyllis

Alex Triantaphyllis

There are a lot of reasons why CD07 has drawn so much national attention. It’s a district Hillary Clinton won in 2016 despite being held by Republicans forever – this was Poppy Bush’s seat back in the day, for goodness’ sake. It’s the home of the kind of well-educated non-Trump Republicans that are, or could be, swinging Democratic. And it features two Democratic challengers who have been outraising the incumbent. Atop that list is Alex Triantaphyllis, who is the Director of Immigration and Economic Opportunity at BakerRipley (formerly Neighborhood Centers). Triantaphyllis is a Rice graduate who has also worked in finance and consulting, and you can hear me pronounce his name correctly (the accent is on the second syllable; there was a pronunciation guide on a whiteboard at his campaign office where we spoke) in the interview:

You can see all of my Congressional interviews as well as finance reports and other information on candidates on my 2018 Congressional Election page.

  1. more mediocre ideas from harvard alumni and baker ripley employees

  2. Robbie Westmoreland says:

Who else wants one of these interviews to involve a candidate spraying their teeth with silver paint, and shouting “WITNESS ME!!!!”
    Anything but mediocre!

  3. Sounds like most of Alex’s economic ideas.

  4. Bill Daniels says:

“….and you can hear me pronounce his name correctly….”

Kudos, Kuff, you made me laugh out loud!

  5. C.L. says:

@Joe…. So a guy who graduated from Rice U, recvd a Masters in Argentina, and also graduated from Harvard Law School is off the tables as a viable candidate ? Are you telling me a guy who went to Lone Star College, A&M, and Prescott has a better plan for what ails CD07 ? If certainly, I’d love to see your name on the ballot and hear your plans…

  6. I turned down a scholarship to study with the United Nations to be close to family.

    What’s your point?

The financial transaction tax isn’t hard to understand.

  7. Steve Houston says:

CL, I’ve known people who graduated from Harvard, interacted with many others, and seen how many flawed public policies came out of there to prefer folks educated elsewhere. While I would prefer such graduates over someone coming from Prescott College, a micro-college in the boondocks, the quality of credentials doesn’t live up to the hype. No, give me someone from UT-Austin, TAMU, or Rice any day of the week.
