New Houston rock station KIOL is fixing to move to a new spot on the dial.
Moving trucks have been spotted in the vicinity of Cumulus Rocker KIOL/Houston, which is poised to annex the 103.7 signal of currently silent sister KUST on April 23. Cumulus Market Manager Pat Fant tells [us] the Rock will spew forth on both signals until around the second week in May, when 97.5 will flip to a new, top-secret format and 103.7 will become KIOL’s new home.
I’m curious as to what that “new, top-secret format” might be, but only just. I’m fully converted to 89.7 KACC now, and spend maybe 90% of my time in the car tuned in there. Their broad mix of rock music is very appealing, and they hardly play any commercials. OK, most of the DJs are strictly amateur hour, but they don’t talk that much, so I can cope. I’ll check out the new^2 97.5 in May, but unless they really knock my socks off it’ll just be a passing glance. Link via Banjo.
There’s a pirate radio station in town operating out of an alternative art space as part of an art exhibition. If you know who it is and where it is, you can go and broadcast whatever you want to on it. Pretty damned cool, for a limited time only.
I have heard rumors that the new format they are planning at 97.5 is heavy metal, but I dont see why they would do that when they went through all of the trouble to get Wendy Miller a two hour metal show. I have a feeling that it might be something along the lines of an alternative format to compete with 94.5
I live in Alvin and have been listening to KACC for years, it’s great to have them on air! I do listen to alot of cd’s too but KACC has a nice variety, their signal is weak because it’s the comunity college, not big buisiness running it! No houston radio stations play much music I really like anymore, I still like alot of it but it’s just been played over & over…. to the point where it’s sickening! I hope KIOL makes some changes in the right direction soon!!
yeah, well lets hope pat fant crawls out of his 70’s coffin (no punn) to get rock 975 off the ground. they sound as old and boring as klol did. come on now, outlaw dave, jim pruitt, and dumb ass and dumb shit in the mornings. those old burnouts could’nt create compelling radio to save a dead dog. what did klol have, a 2 share and an 18th rank. and that was with a good signal and heritage calls. cumulus is a small market company with small market players and don’t have a clue about major market radio. i know it hurts but the facts are the facts.
let me tell you all something i dont like what happend to krwp 97.5. whoever made these changes needs someone to put their foot knee deep in there hinepocs. because this station has made too many changes since they moved from beaumont to houston every format they have tried is already in the houston area on other stations. every time they promote something hell its in houston. these stations want to get the BIG ASS HEAD and they want to cover houston but they arent getting the revanues or they so dam greedy for money that they that they try anything to make it. to hell with tese program directors every time they get a wild hair in their ass they want to change DONT TRY TO COPY OTHER STATIONS DO DO YOUR OWN THING 97.5 HAS DID 4 CHANGES 4 YEARS IN A ROW LET THIS BE THE 5TH STUNT AND IF IT DONT WORK SELL THE STATION TO SOMEONE WHO CAN DO SOMETHING WITH IT. AND KIOL HOW IN THE HELL CAN YOU ROCK AND SUCK AT THE SAME TIME.
WE WANT DAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
