Desis for Texas, a political organization of South Asian citizens, has given a very enthusiastic endorsement to Chris Bell for Governor. It’s now mirrored on the Bell blog. Check it out.

If it is a political organization of South Asian citizens than it does Bell NO good. He needs US citizens not South Asian citizens. South Asian citizens could vote in India or Pakistan not in the US. Only US citizens can vote in US elections and please do not interepret my writing this as racist because I really do want Asian Americans to vote in American elections just not South Asian citizens. Thank you!

  2. My, we’re pedantic. You could have followed the first link to find out all you needed to know about the Desis, you know. For the record, since there’s no nation of “South Asia” for them to be citizens of, they are citizens (that would be American citizens, in case you’re having difficulty following me here) of South Asian descent. Are we happy now? Sheesh.

    Burt,

Thanks for the primer on elections. It was very helpful.

    Well, it’s pedantic but accurate.

You got something against us pedants, Charles?! 🙂

  5. Dear Mr. Levine,

It seems as if we are continuing the discussion over our endorsement of Mr. Bell in many a spot!

I am disappointed, sir, that our website failed to make it clear to you that we are an organisation of South Asian Americans looking to make a difference for our communities by means of political representation. It is surprising to me, in that I composed the text of the website, and I seem to recall mentioning it not only on the splash page, but on the frequently asked questions page, the general information page and just about anywhere else I could mention it. Perhaps I could send you a text message to make it more clear. SMS is certainly all the rage these days.

Nonetheless, Mr. Levine, I will reiterate that as a desi of Houston, we remember how Congressman Bell never wrote us off and how he was a tireless advocate for our issues. Our endorsement of his candidacy stands.

    Dheeraj

p.s. I am forever enamoured by paedantic readings, but Mr. Levine’s cannot be said to be paedantic in that it is simply incorrect.

I can’t speak for Kuff, but I was being sarcastic.
