You may recall the adventures of Roger Owen, now the Democratic nominee for CD01 in East Texas, during the primaries – see here and here for a refresher. Now that he is the nominee, a few of us bloggers thought we should express our concerns about his actions during the primary to him. Vince Leibowitz has written an open letter to Roger Owen (PDF), for which I’m a cosigner. Check it out.
(It turns out there are other reasons to have concerns about Roger Owen as well. Too bad that didn’t come out during the primary, that’s all I can say.)
I think Owens comments are bad, but he really missed the mark.
The candidate Franklin is an absolutely horrible candidate and he IS hurting the party. When we allow someone with so little going for him to run to represent the party, we and the candidate is hurting the party.
Owen should have focused on that and that only.
Dumbass. Both of them.
a few of us bloggers thought we should express our concerns about his actions during the primary to him.
Cool. But if that were the sole purpose, wouldn’t a regular letter have sufficed? Isn’t the point of an open letter (and one with footnotes no less!) to express concerns ABOUT someone to a broader audience?
There’s nothing wrong with that, of course. This good ol’ innerweb thingie is tailor made for open letters. I would suggest using a spell checker next time, though. There are at least two misspelled words in the open letter (oops!).
Now that is funny!
Living in CD-1, I know both Mr. Franklin and Mr. Owen.
Mr. Franklin is a far better candidate than Mr. Owen ever will be, particularly from the speaking and dealing with issues standpoints.
As for Patrick, this is the first time Tommy Merritt is even facing a Democrat in the general election since going to Austin.
Everybody whines about not having candidates. But when we do have a candidate, the same people still complain.
Sorry Mr. Cobarruvias.
Owen has had it in for no reason against Patrick. And to go to the media with this was utterly disgraceful. He is using Patrick to score cheap points with an intolerant crowd.
If you think Owen is right, then I feel sorry for you.
