I just finished setting up my mother-in-law with her DSL connection. She’s already marvelling at how much it beats the pants off of dialup. In the vernacular, this makes me a Good Boy. I’m taking the rest of the day off.
(And before anyone asks: Windows Update – set for Automatic; McAfee Virus Scan – up to date and set up for automatic update checking; Microsoft Defender – installed and configured. Did I miss anything?)
Backup procedure in place?
(Ducks)
I use Memeo AutoBackup for my systems. It immediately backs up every file on your (Windows) computer every time you save it – to an external hard drive, USB token, iPod, a fileserver, FTP server, the Internet. or even somewhere else on the same machine. No scheduling, no blank DVDs, install and forget about it. It’ll even automatically upload your photos to a photo sharing/printing site.
I use an external 250Gb USB2.0 hard drive from Iomega I got for less than $150 on sale at Fry’s, as well as an FTP site for critical stuff while I’m travelling.
Full disclosure: G-51 is an investor in Memeo – but many other people I’ve recommended it to love it.
