And now for something a little different. Have you seen Waldo around lately? He’s been popping up around town in Houston and Austin. Here he is on the abandoned bank building at Shepherd and Alabama:
And here he is at I-10 and Studemont:
Metroblogging Houston has also noticed. Turns out this is one person’s personal project. Here’s what he says about his first work:
This is my very first Waldo. I had no idea what this was going to turn out like.
My girlfriend is the one who inspired me to embark on this Waldo project. Not too sure how it will evolve but I’m really excited and already have lots of ideas on where to take this.
After painting and cutting this out I immediately went to the streets to paste it up because I couldn’t wait to get it out to the public. I was out in broad daylight meticulously pasting this up without the fear of a cop driving by because It didn’t feel like a crime at all. I can’t believe some people consider this an illegal act. It blows my mind!
I really like how it looks as though he’s strolling down the sidewalk. I’m hoping it will stay up for a while since it’s in front of an elementary school.
So far all of his Houston works have been inside the Loop, mostly in the greater Montrose area. The two I spotted are on streets I drive a lot – I snapped these pics on my way home from work yesterday. Some of these may not be there all that long, so if you drive by one of the locations, stop and take a look. Who knows where Waldo will turn up next.
My 5-year saw the one on Commonwealth with me, and subsequently we had to do one on our fence at home. It is in chalk and bad, but I guess that makes Waldo viral.
I live not too far from the one on Commonwealth, and it always makes me smile when I see it. I’ve seen one other, but I can’t remember where it was.
Saw one at Westheimer and Woodhead at the school there – cute! What a clever and fun idea.
GO WALDO!!!!
there is one in austin on the drag near daniel johnston’s “hi how are you” frog. kudos.
