District H Town Hall meeting

From Inside Central Houston:

A Town Hall Meeting on “Proposed Center Street Recycle Center Relocation” will be 6 – 8 p.m. July 6 at the West End Multi-Service Center, 170 Heights Blvd.

It will be hosted by District H Houston City Councilman Ed Gonzalez with Solid Waste Department director Harry Hayes.

For more information, call 832-393-3003.

I’d mentioned the recycling center move before, when I first heard of it a week ago. I’m interested in hearing what the details are about this.

UPDATE: See comments – this has been canceled, and the Mayor has agreed not to pursue the proposed transaction. Thanks to Larissa for the information.

One Response to District H Town Hall meeting

  1. Larissa says:

    IT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

The following was sent to the Old Sixth Ward email list

Dear Old Sixth Ward Friends and Colleagues, The Town Hall meeting scheduled for Monday, July 6th to address the administrations’s plans to sell the land and relocate the recycling drop off facility on Center Street at Harvard has been canceled because the mayor has agreed not to pursue the proposed transaction and, instead, to support a motion to refer the item back to the administration. Please see forwarded below the note from Jason Cisneroz in CM Gonzalez’ office explaining that this will halt the city’s plans to relocate the recycling facility to Spring street!

A hearty thanks to all who’ve worked on this issue!
Please have a happy and safe Fourth of July!

    Jane:

Council Member Gonzalez has been in active conversations with the
administration……and we have confirmation that it will support a motion
to refer the item back to the administration.

This will halt plans to locate a neighborhood recycling facility at the
    Spring Street location.

The administration will continue to investigate alternate recycling
    locations.

The city plans to keep the Center Street site in operation pending a review
    of other options.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience with this matter. We will keep
    in touch!

    -jason
