I have 57 songs that start with the word “You”, plus another 25 that begin with a “You” contraction – you’d, you’ll, you’re, you’ve. It’s all about you, isn’t it? Well, these ten songs are, anyway.
1. You & Me In A Rowboat to Rio – Eddie From Ohio
2. You Are My Sunshine – Ray Charles
3. You Can’t Break My Heart – Hot Club of Cowtown
4. You Can’t Lose What You Ain’t Never Had – Muddy Waters
5. You Can Call Me Al – Paul Simon
6. You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch) – Bruce Springsteen
7. You Know I’m No Good – Amy Winehouse
8. You Know I’m Right – David Gilmour
9. You May Be Right – What Made Milwaukee Famous
10. You Only Love Me For My Lunchbox – Asylum Street Spankers
What do you have to say for yourself this week?
Entire song list report: Started with “I Have The Touch”, by Peter Gabriel. Finished with “I Want Your Love”, by Chic, song #2256. That’s 60 songs, all of which start with “I”, not counting the songs from last week, and there’s a few more to go. So maybe it’s about me, too.
Ripping vinyl report: Somewhat amazingly, I had a record in my collection that had never been played. I mean, it was still in the shrink wrap. It’s a commemorative album for the 1980 Montreux-Detroit International Jazz Fest, for which the Stroh Brewing Company was the sponsor. As with several other albums, I have no idea how it came to be in my possession, nor why I had never opened and played it. It was really good, and being able to add it in to my library makes the USB turntable that much nicer an investment.
Also added: “Big Generator”, by Yes, their (studio) followup to “90125”. This one I remember buying, probably the summer after my senior year in college.
Who was featured on that Montreux – Detroit Jazz album?
I have 130 songs beginning with “You,” by Bonnie Raitt and ending with “Your Wildest Dreams” by The Moody Blues. In between, such gems as:
You’re Gonna Lose That Girl – The Beatles
You’re No Good – Linda Ronstadt
You’re So Vain – Carly Simon
You’ve Got A Friend – James Taylor (and another version by its author, Carole King)
You Are The Woman – Firefall
You Can’t Hurry Love – Diana Ross & The Supremes
You Didn’t Have To Be So Nice – The Lovin’ Spoonful
You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me – Dusty Springfield
(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman – Carole King
Your Mama Don’t Dance – Loggins & Messina
Linkmeister,
The songs and artists on the album are as follows:
“Theme In Search of a Sports Spectacular” – Lyman Woodard
“LTD” – Dexter Gordon
“Wearin’ It Out” – Ramsey Lewis
“Little Sunflower” – Freddie Hubbard
“Limehouse Blues” – Dave Brubeck and Gerry Mulligan
“All But Blind” – Larry Nozero
“Jelly Roll” – Charlie Mingus
“Feelin’ & Dealin'” – Heath Brothers
“Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina” – Stan Getz
“Battle Royal” – Count Basie and Duke Ellington Orchestras
Really good stuff.
