Friday random twelve: The end of the alphabet

At long last, the end of my “Songs that start with a certain letter” theme. I don’t have ten songs that start with the letter Z, but I do have twelve songs that contain a word that starts with the letter Z. So you get two bonus songs this week:

1. Bon Zouk et Bon Soukous – Susanna Sharpe and the Samba Police
2. Channel Z – The B-52s
3. Going To The Zoo – Peter, Paul, and Mary
4. Party At Ground Zero – Fishbone
5. Safety Zone – Lou Reed
6. Ted Zancha – Maps & Atlases
7. Zat You, Santa Claus? – Asylum Street Spankers
8. Zero – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
9. Zero and Blind Terry – Bruce Springsteen
10. Zippidy Doo Dah – Harry Nilsson
11. Zombie Jamboree – Lager Rhythms
12. Zoot Suit Riot – Cherry Poppin’ Daddies

The last list of a theme deserves a little extra, right? Don’t worry, I’ve got other themes in the works. What’s at the end of your iPod this week?

Entire song list report: Started with “I Want Your Sex”, by George Michael, which is a fitting accompaniment for the last song from last week. After finally making it through the end of the first person singular pronoun tunes, I finished with “If”, by the Modern Barbershop Quartet, song #2371, for a total of 115 this week. I should note that I also have a song called “If” by House of Heroes, which is not the same as the other “If” song. I’ve discovered quite a few examples of this, plus of course many cover versions of songs I didn’t realize I had, as a result of this project. I may make something of that for my Next Big Thing.

Ripping vinyl report: “Cruisin'”, by the Village People. Admit it, you have an album or two in your collection like this, too. Actually, this was Tiffany’s record originally, but when you marry someone you inherit their tunes, so it’s mine now. I only recorded side one, which is the side that has “Y.M.C.A” on it. There were a few skips in there, and side two looked like the surface of the moon, so I quit while I was ahead. The only other song on the side was a 12+ minute medley, “The Women” and “I’m a Cruiser”. One of these things is not like the others, that’s all I can say. And in honor of this occasion, here’s the funniest bit from “Wayne’s World 2”:

Sorry about the Portuguese subtitles, but that was the only such vid I could find on Youtube. Happy Friday, y’all.

I thought I might be missing some songs out of my library, and the fact that I couldn’t find Zombie Jamboree or Zoot Suit Riot proves that I do need to import a bunch…I know I ripped ’em right before I got married, but no idea what happened.
