Check your Metro Q card

Your Metro Q card may be set to expire at the end of the month. Here’s some information about that, via press release:

Is your METRO Q® Fare Card expiring?  Flip it over to the back and check the serial number located on the upper right-hand corner.

Cards with serial numbers of 0000000052 through 0000164100 will expire May 31, 2011.

What to do before your card expires?

  • Use all of the funds currently loaded on the card before the expiration date and get a new card
  • Or, transfer the funds to a new card

You can get your replacement card or transfer funds to a new card at our 1900 Main RideStore, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can also get your replacement card at any participating Q Card retailer, click here for the list.

Do you have a discounted Q Card? (Seniors, students, disabled, 70+ riders)

Please check your mailbox – new cards have already been mailed to the addresses on file. If you are an active discounted Q Card user and did not receive a new card, please contact Qexpire@rideretro.org or call our Customer Care Line at 713-635-4000.

METROLift customers will be contacted by a representative with instructions about their replacement card.

For more information, please call the Customer Care Line at 713-635-4000 or visit www.ridemetro.org.

See here for more. I can add something to this discussion, as I have a Q card that’s on its way out, and Tiffany ran into some difficulties getting it updated for me. After giving our feedback from this experience to Metro, I’m pleased to say that we got that straightened out, and you will be able to conduct this business on behalf of a close family member (spouse, parent, child) who lives at the same address as you. In addition, you are no longer required to register your card at the Ride Store when you buy it. It’s recommended that you do, so that any remaining fare monies on it can be credited to you in the event the card is lost or stolen, but not required. Among other things, that means that if you want to have a spare or two lying around for use by a visitor or guest, you can do so. Bottom line, check your Q cards and get them updated as needed.

One Response to Check your Metro Q card

I’ve noticed that if you’re light on a fare (eg, $1.00 for a $1.25 fare) the reader will run the blance to zero. Metro seems bound and determined to chisel every possible penny out of the riders, despite subsidies.
BTW, the only place to get a Q card on the rail line is at the Metro office, open conveniently during abbreviated banker’s hours. Not to terribly convenient, particularly for weekend visitors who want to get from med center to downtown or the Galleria.
