Song #93 on the Popdose Top 100 Covers list is “Baby, Now That I’ve Found You”, originally by The Foundations and done is a very different style by Alison Krauss. Here’s the original:
And here’s Krauss’ cover:
The Popdose writer’s comment on the original was pretty harsh, calling it “a song that had DESERVEDLY faded into obscurity, because the Foundations’ original recording was pretty terrible to begin with and had aged badly to boot”. I wouldn’t call it terrible – it’s kinda catchy – but it is disposable. And the Foundations are the same people that recorded “Build Me Up, Buttercup”, whose lyrics my inner 12-year-old always hears as “Why don’t you feel me up, Buttercup”, and that’s just embarrassing. So, on balance, I’d have to say that the Krauss version is definitely superior.
