How much do I love a (well-timed) story about songs people hate? I can count ten songs from my collection that the writer and commenters on this piece cannot abide:
1. We Built This City (Extended Club Remix) – Starship
2. Pinball Wizard – The Who
3. Hungry Like The Wolf – Jordan Galland
4. De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da – The Police
5. Blinded By The Light – Bruce Springsteen
6. Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen
7. Safety Dance – Men Without Hats
8. Roxanne – The Police
9. Fly, Robin, Fly – Silver Convention
10. I Don’t Like Mondays – Boomtown Rats
The Duran Duran original of “Hungry Like The Wolf” and the Manfred Mann cover of “Blinded By The Light” were the actual songs cited, but this is what I have. Who knew there was that much animus towards The Police? Now here’s your chance to vent a little hatred of your own. What songs make you want to act like Lane Meyer in “Better Off Dead” and rip the radio out of your car? I’ll open the bidding with “ABC 123” by the Jackson 5, and “Best of You”, by the Foo Fighters. Have at it in the comments.
Why is that Starship song so widely hated? It’s not good, but there are a zillion songs which meet the “not-good” criteria.
