Following up on last week’s post, here are the remaining “one-hit wonders” in my collection from that list that I found in that Village Voice post.
1. Relax – Frankie Goes To Hollywood
2. In A Big Country – Big Country
3. Turning Japanese – The Vapors
4. Unbelievable – EMF
5. Whip It – Devo
6. Tubthumping – Chumbawamba
7. Nothing Compares 2 U – Sinead O’Connor
8. We’re Not Gonna Take It – Twisted Sister
9. Baby Got Back – Sir Mix-a-Lot
10. 99 Luftballons – Nena
Also: “Mickey”, Toni Basil; “Come On Eileen”, Dexy’s Midnight Runners. I didn’t feel like doing a Friday Random 12.
Again, read that Voice story for the philosophy, and the disagreement with the choices on this list. I have a problem with the inclusion of Frankie Goes To Hollywood and Twisted Sister, because both had multiple songs that got extended radio airplay, and with Sinead O’Connor, who has had a long and distinguished career, if not a hit-oriented one. But hey, it’s the arguments that make list-compiling fun, right?
