I tried, I really did, to watch The Crooked E last night, but after about 20 minutes of inane dialogue and Houston stereotyping, I gave up. I bought Tiffany a boxed set of the Harry Potter books from Amazon UK for Christmas, and a couple of hours with The Goblet of Fire was a much more productive use of my time.
I will say this, though – if the rest of the movie hammered the connection to Team Bush as relentlessly as the bit I watched did, I can certainly see why some people didn’t want it to air in November, just before the election.
Meanwhile, back in reality, the Enron prosecutors are looking to build on their successes from 2002 this year. Let’s all wish them the best.
I worked at Enron as a consultant. My contract ran out shortly before the company imploded. Perhaps because of that, I couldn’t bring myself to watch “The Crooked E”. Somehow knowing that the some of the people being portrayed were people I knew was just a bit more than I could handle.
Dang it, I was hoping it wouldn’t be that bad.
I dunno, I liked it. Perhaps I was distracted by all the half-naked Enron floozies…
Kuff: you didn’t think that the progress report on the Enron investigation running in the Chronic the day after the TV movie was a coincidence, did you?
I can’t help suspecting it’s DoJ, and ultimately Bush Admin, damage control; if so, sure makes the “liberal media” look like stooges for the Bushies–again.
The Chron has generally tried to make up for its totally embarassing lack of investigative reporting on Enron before its collapse by covering every detail of what’s happened since. Given that, I don’t think it’s anything remarkable.
Besides, I don’t think Team Bush cares much about Enron now. They did all the damage control they needed to before the election. From their perspective, it’s old news.
Inanities and stereotypes on the teevee? Charles, I can’t tell you how shocked I am to hear such horrid revelations. And how in the world did the “hammering on Team Bush” slip by the DoJ-sponsored VRWC Media Censoring Committee? Heads are gonna roll, I promise!
Conspiracy bubble-popper bonus comment: when has a hometown paper ever NOT run an article on the same subject as a big-whoop teevee entertainment show? Who owns the Chron and who owns whatever station aired the alleged entertainment vehicle? I don’t know, I’m just askin.
The Chron is a Murdoch paper, and the CBS affiliate in Houston is a Belo station. They do a cross-promotional thing on the nightly news, for what it’s worth.
