Margaret Kidd Duncan, a kindred spirit to Houston’s semi-deposed Police Chief C.O. “BAMF” Bradford, has resigned from the Seabrook City Council in the wake of her profanity-laced tirade at various Seabrook police officers.
During an afternoon news conference, a teary-eyed Duncan said she wanted to publicly apologize for her actions.
“If I could turn back the events, I would. Accept my apologies, as I have no excuse,” she said.
“I resigned my title as mayor pro tem, which I felt was the appropriate and gracious thing to do. And today, I resign my position on City Council. I think it’s time that we move forward and deal with the issues facing this city. I’m not resigning because of public pressure. I’m used to dealing with pressure.”
Duncan said she had embarrassed herself, her family, her friends and the council. Earlier this week she said she had apologized to the officers and dispatcher as well as to each council member.
That’s a pretty good apology if you ask me, much better than some others that we’ve seen recently. Jack disagrees, but this is closer to home for him than for me. In any event, those of us in Houston can go back to ignoring places like Seabrook until the next embarrassing-small-town-politician incident erupts.
It’s not good enough. She broke the laws of her community with her attempt to abuse her power and position. The arrogance she displayed is downright revolting.
By responding with her shedding of the somewhat meaningless position of Mayor Pro Tem but keeping her coincil seat, that was an insult to anyone of any intelligence.
How does this differ from Trent Lott? There’s absolutely no mistaking what vileness this woman said. There’s no room for misinterpretation. Lott’s comments left room for itnerpetation, even if the blatantly Liberal media did their absolute best to make the statement seem ironclad and without confusion.
She did resign from her Council seat. That’s why it’s different. I think you must be misreading.
Charles,
…And Trent Lott resigned his post as Minority Leader. He didn’t resign his Senate seat, but then again, a position on a local city council is a far cry from the US Senate. There’s no legitimate comparison to be made between the positions.
OK, let’s try again:
1. Margaret Kidd Duncan resigned her City Council position, which is what I sid originally. This does distinguish herself from Trent Lott, who did not resign his Senate seat. (Not that I ever claimed he should. If the voters of Mississippi want him to serve, that’s their business.)
2. I liked MKD’s apology better than Lott’s. Disagree with me if you like, but that’s my position.
Am I missing something?
That about covers it!
