We continue with At Large #1, where term-limited incumbent Steve Costello is now running for Mayor. Today’s candidate is Jenifer Rene Pool, who is making her third attempt to win a citywide race; she finished third in a crowded field for At Large #3 in 2013, less than one percentage point out of the runoff. Pool owns a construction and permitting consulting firm. She is a longtime political activist, serving as President of the Houston GLBT Political Caucus from 2005 through 2008, and advising the HISD Board of Trustees on the non-discrimination policy they adopted in 2011. We had a lot to talk about, and you can hear it here:
(Note: This interview took place before the Supreme Court ruling that required a repeal or referendum on HERO.)
You can see all of my interviews as well as finance reports and other information on candidates on my 2015 Election page.
The field expanded today with the entry of Mike Knox, who formerly sought District A in 2013 against Council Member Stardig. Knox is a former police officer, and serves as a Republican Party precinct chair, as does Trebor Gordon, also in this contest.
