The Chron makes endorsements in the many contested Democratic primaries for civil and criminal district court. For brevity’s sake and so as not to copy and paste the whole damn thing, I’ve just pulled out the endorsed candidates’ names:
11th Civil District Court: Jim Lewis
61th Civil District Court: Dion Ramos
165th Civil District Court: Josefina Rendón
174th Criminal District Court: Hazel B. Jones
176th Criminal District Court: Shawna L. Reagin
177th Criminal District Court: David L. Singer
178th Criminal District Court: Kelli Johnson
179th Criminal District Court: Stephen Aslett
215th Civil District Court: JoAnn Storey

Click over to read the reasons. A much shorter list of endorsements in contested Republican judicial primaries is here. The 11th, 174th, and 178th courts have Democratic incumbents that are not running for re-election. The 61st had been held by Al Bennett, who has since been elevated to the federal bench. Nine of ten Democratic incumbent judges running for re-election have no primary opponents; the tenth is Elaine Palmer in the 215th. Judge Palmer is also the only candidate singled out for a negative word by the Chron. Most of the races they characterized as tough choices between good candidates. I know I’m going to rely on the wisdom of the endorsers for some of these races, to serve as tiebreakers if nothing else.
