Here come the Go-Gos:
That’s from their 2000 reunion album “God Bless The Go-Go’s”, which I bought on a whim while perusing at a record store, as one did back then. The video is from a 2001 concert at Central Park that followed. Offhand, I can’t think of an all-female rock and roll band that was as successful and impactful as the Go-Gos. They’re going on a farewell tour this summer, but alas aren’t coming anywhere close to me. Maybe they’ll make like the Rolling Stones and have a “farewell” tour every few years, just for the hell of it. I’m rooting for it.
With a totally different song of the same name, here’s Trout Fishing In America:
TFIA got their start in Houston, and released numerous folk rock albums before reinventing themselves as a kids’ music band in the 90s. I saw them at Rice at that time when they had released their first kids’ album, Big Trouble. We took the girls to see them a few times at the Mucky Duck when they were younger, and everyone had a good time. Olivia has outgrown that music, but Audrey and I still like it. There’s plenty of kids’ music that you can’t wait for your kids to get tired of, but I have no plans to take TFIA off my iPod.
