Public Citizen has a new site called White House For Sale that will be tracking President Bush’s prodigious fundraising efforts. They’ve also got a permalinkless blog that appears to be their clearinghouse for tidbits about individual Bush Pioneers and Rangers. (May I add, what retarded names those are. What are the next levels called? Avengers? Superheros? Protectors Of All That Is Righteous From Hippie Liberal Commie Freaks?)
Anyway, this should be a useful and informative addition to the 2004 campaign. They’ve even got a handy button you can use as a link image if you’re so inclined. Check it out.
May I be the first to say: So?
Since McCain-Feingold limits individual contributions to $2K, a candidate needs a lot of individuals to contribute to mount a campaign. So far (according to 7/16/03 WaPo), Bush has raised $34.4M from 105K donors, for an average of about $325 per donor. The ‘Pioneers’ and ‘Rangers’ are a way to recognize the folks who get out and beat the bushes, so to speak, for contributions.
And before you ask why he needs to raise so much money in the primary season, look no further than George Soros, who today pledged $10M of his own money to defeat Bush.
Republicans only get to say “so?” to Bush’s whoring for bucks if they weren’t howling about how Clinton rented out the Lincoln Bedroom to his Hollywood pals.
Of course, Bush was doing all that long before Soros put up any money, and would be doing it if Soros never put up a red cent, but let’s not talk about that.
The whole Pioneers and Rangers thing sounds like something from Communist Russia (or contemporary Cuba). Maybe he could adopt something along the lines of the blogging ecosystem?
I’m not so worried about the Lincoln bedroom being rented, Ginger, now that Messers McCain and Feingold have cleaned up politics and put an end to all that. 🙂 Or not….
Imagine this. http://whitehouseforsale.org/ seems to be offline. Something fishy going on here me thinks.
