I’m with you! Insofar as I watch TV, it’s Law & Order reruns and BBC America all the way.
Law and Order reruns, CSI, Monk, Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck, Dead Zone, and the catcams.
The only thing broadcast is good for at this point is fresh Law and Order or CSI. At some point, everything will be a Law and Order or CSI variant.
Any CSI variation, MNF. I never watch anything on NBC or ABC (except MNF).
I may have to give “Arrested Development” a try. I used to love “Scrubs” but I can’t seem to remember to watch it on Tuesdays. I know it’s goofy but it is oddly entertaining. And speaking of goody but oddly entertaining I’ll watch “Reno 911” (widely uneven, but at times hysterical) and “Good Eats” on the food network.
The rest of the time it’s ESPN for football, baseball and a little poker.
I highly recommend “Arrested Development”, a show I finally started to watch over the summer after hearing a bunch of friends rave about it. It’s a little strange, but it’s worth the time. And Jason Bateman is still cute. 🙂
I’ve already set a Season Pass on our TiVo for “Jack and Bobby”. I hate to publicly admit to watching anything on WB, but it’s really, really good. I’m anxious for the season premiere of “Joan of Arcadia”, my favorite new show from last year, and I’ll be setting up a Season Pass for “The West Wing” once that’s back next month, now that I’m just about caught up with it (God bless Bravo).
“The Wire.”
That’s pretty much it.
I’m rather fond of BBCA’s Friday lineup, I love “The Prisoner” and “The Saint.” “The Avengers” doesn’t do anything for me at all.
However, I loathe what BBCA did to Monty Python. It takes 40 minutes to show each episode, they add an incredible 10+ minutes of commercials to a show that was originally shown without ANY commercials. Thank buddha for TiVo or it would be completely unwatchable. I set a subscription for Monty Python at lowest priority, so if there’s nothing better on, I can always have a few reruns sitting around.
I’m back on the juice after 18 months of no TV. (What *was* I thinking?) In addition to some of the above (Law and Order, TOS and Good Eats), I’m a regular Tivo-er of America’s Test Kitchen, Queer Eye, and until very recently, Six Feet Under. I also frequently catch re-runs of Friends or That 70s Show that are new to me. From the new lineup, I’ve watched an episode of Father of the Pride. It wasn’t faboo from start to finish, but there were several lines that made me laugh out loud, and I’ll watch it again. Does anyone know when/if Arrested Development is coming back? The Emmys last night (and comments here) made me want to check it out.
Oh, and I’ve finally jumped on the Daily Show bandwagon. Oddly, I find it a hopeful half hour.
Football, baseball, and Seinfeld. Nothing else necessary.
Not that much, actually.
I am a geek, so Jermiah, and the two Stargates when they come back are on the list.
Dead Like Me on Showtime, the new CSI: NY (ironically, I have lost interest in the original and never liked CSI: Miami, but Gary Sinese is worth a few episodes) and, umm, that’s about it for regular viewing. I might give the Wire a chance — I have heard good things about it.
Patrick, can you explain what you get from watching poker? I’ve played a fair bit, thus I’m not unfamiliar with it, but I just don’t get poker as a spectator “sport.”
Most of what I can recommend is pretty much covered. I’ll chime in on “Arrested Development”, a terrific show. “Joey” is far better than it has any right to be, but I can’t actually recommend it. I like the Thursday Mark Burnett reality shows, “The Apprentice” and “Survivor”. I like “Without a Trace” a lot more than the various CSIs. The only shows I really look forward to are two L&Os, Original and CI.
And “24”, but that doesn’t start until January, argh.
Linkmeister, I wish I could but there is just something about knowing what each player has, watching the bluffs, looking for tells and watching “pros” and how they play.
I can’t really explain it. Maybe it’s a function of other programs on at that time being really bad.
To me, watching Poker on TV is like watching chess on TV. When I play it, it’s a game. When I see the best play it, it’s a sport.
Since I fall into the “Single Guy with No Sex Life” category, my viewing is mainly Fox Sports World (a soccer geek with no sex life, no less), SPN, ESPN2, MSG (a NYC sports channel based mainly on Madison Square Garden events), YES (the Yankees channel in NYC, also available elsewhere), Fox Sports Net, whatever MLB, soccer, rugby league and Australian Rules Football I can get on the Internet, and of course, the Playboy Channel (I did say I had no sex life, right,):-)
I’m not much for television shows anymore.
Ah. Well, I can certainly understand the point that the other channels have nothing to watch…how did we get to the point of having 500 channels, all of them showing content so mundane?
Linkmeister, In my case I only have 50 channels with the mundane, the lowest you can get with satellite. I’m a cheap bastard.
Most of my watching seems to fall into the off-season variety. With the two Stargates over, there’s not much left. Interested in ‘Lost’, and still enduring ‘Smallville’ (it’s a sickness, I know, but the superhero geek in me endures it for the occaisonal gems).
Otherwise, not much until January, when we get back both Stargates, and Galactica (which I liked despite all desire not to).
And, of course, Farscape. Ooooh, Farscape.
“Arrested Development” ??
