Seriously, what’s the rush?
Gov. Greg Abbott said Thursday that Texas is looking at when it will be able to lift all statewide orders related to the coronavirus pandemic and that an announcement is forthcoming.
Abbott made the comments at a Corpus Christi news conference where he was asked when the statewide mask mandate would end as Texans continue to get vaccinated. That requirement has been in effect since July.
Abbott called it a “great question.”
“We’re working right now on evaluating when we’re gonna be able to remove all statewide orders, and we will be making announcements about that pretty soon,” Abbott said, without giving a specific time frame.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends that people who have received two doses of the vaccine continue to avoid crowds, stay at least 6 feet away from people who live outside their households, and wear masks to cover their nose and mouth.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious-disease doctor, has repeatedly said that he does not know when Americans will be able to return to normal, but that they may still need to continue wearing face masks into 2022.
Note that at this point about five percent of Texans total have been fully vaccinated. We need to get to over 70% to achieve something like herd immunity. Maybe Abbott is speaking of some hypothetical date well into the future to lift the mask mandate, but he deserves no benefit of the doubt. Why do we always have to learn these lessons the hard way? In my neighborhood, the bars are packed with youngsters, and they are all there without masks, it is hard to drink your beer while wearing it. There is no Science that shows that they make much difference. It is probably time to scrap them altogether, as numbers have dropped more than models predicted and testing is also way down. Influenza has been defeated, there were about 17 cases of flu in the entire country this year.
Jason, you know that the part of masks not being effective is not true. Why do you persist with your lies?
All wrong. The science shows masks make a big difference. Simple to drink with a mask, you just lift up your mask from below, take a sip, bring mask back down. You can eat the same way, but people don’t because many are just not scrupulous and are really looking for any excuse to ditch the mask. The social distancing, hand sanitizing, and mask wearing are why the flu is way down, and why the coronavirus numbers were going down until recently.
