I’ll take US Geography for $400, Alex

Take this test and see how well you can do placing states on a blank map. Pretty cool. I got 92%, average error 11 miles, and 268 seconds to complete, but I think I got an easy draw. I’ll try again another time and see. Via Ginger.

What would really be interesting to see is how well the typical high school senior would do with that test. It took me a little longer, and my mouse wasn’t steady, but I did get 49 out of 50 right (Nebraska was my miss, I had it a little lower than I should have.)

I got 98% Avg Error 11….I screwed up and thought Kansas was N. Dakota….Doh!

  3. Greg Wythe says:

    92% – 6 Miles – 237 seconds

  4. Tim says:

    94%, 4 miles, 224 seconds.

What fun! First time, I dropped a state because the cat startled me and was off by something like 800 miles. So I restarted and my first completion was about 84% but I didn’t realize it was being timed. Second completion was 94% with an error rate of 6 miles and done in 297 seconds. It completely hinges on the order the states are given to you. Some states in the mid-west are way easier to put in if you have another state nearby. But if you have to do Wyoming early…

    96% 4 miles 666 seconds (got interrupted 🙂 )
48 out of 50 perfect missed Kentucky as my first state and Wyoming as my first state in the west)

Great little puzzle, is there one for the world/

  7. 88%, avg. 15 miles off, 405 secs. I got some difficult midwestern states early.

There is a fun world geography quiz, which involves identifying unlabeled but border-defined countries by name. I haven’t been to the site in a while, so give me time to get the URL.

  8. That was fun — thanks for the link! 98% – 4 mi – 329 sec. (I missed the first one, Wyoming, by 201 miles.)

  9. noplot says:

98%, 242 seconds, 1 mile error average. Kansas was the first one and I was a bit off; other than that, fine. Of course, being a geography major helps…

  10. Here’s that world geography quiz I promised you:

The cool thing is you can pick a country (and state if you choose the US) to represent and see how it compares to other countries and states. But the test itself is very well done.

Sorry about that. The link is bad, but the URL is right.

    This link should be good.
