Endorsement watch: Planned Parenthood

As you know, I consider the Planned Parenthood Action Fund endorsements to be a big deal, because I think very highly of Planned Parenthood as an organization. They just released their endorsement list for the 2009 Houston elections, which are as follows:

Ronald Green for Controller
Sue Lovell for City Council At-Large Position 2
Melissa Noriega for City Council At-Large Position 3
Jolanda Jones for City Council At-Large Position 5
Jarvis Johnson for City Council District B
Wanda Adams for City Council District D
Mike Laster for City Council District F
Ed Gonzalez for City Council District H
James Rodriguez for City Council District I

You may be wondering about the missing races, especially the Mayor’s race. One of the great things about living in a progressive city like Houston is that most of the candidates we have running for local office are very good on social issues. As such, in a whole bunch of races, multiple candidates pass muster with organizations like Planned Parenthood. You can see in their press release that they rated many candidates and noted those who scored 100% on their questionnaire. In races where multiple candidates got perfect scores, no endorsement was given.

On a related note, my endorsement roundup post has some more lists added to it, plus some more current information. I’ll update it further if I get more.
